Cornelius' story is told in the New Testament, the book of Acts chapter 10. Four specific statements were made about him.
He was a devout man. The word means he was dutiful.
His family reflected his convictions: they too were devout people. Thus, Cornelius had a strong family life.
Cornelius was generous. Some translations note that he was charitable toward the Jewish people. The Jews and Romans were not exactly on friendly terms. But because of his faith, Cornelius had rid himself of any bias he might have toward other races.
Cornelius prayed often. This is another way of saying he understood the necessity of a strong relationship with God.
All of these traits were his prior to his conversion to the Christian faith. One day while in prayer, he was visited by an angel. He was told to send for the Apostle Peter.
Peter later came to his house and began to share the gospel with him. As he did so, the Holy Spirit "fell" on Cornelius and he was converted to the faith.
Cornelius is believed to be the first non-Jewish convert to Christianity.
In light of the fact that he was in law enforcement, this means that when God decided to start bringing in non-Jewish converts to the faith, he began with a police officer! it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
