Tyrone Dennis

Tyrone retired from the Atlanta, Georgia Police Department in the Summer of 2020. He now serves as Director of Security/District Safety Officer at a Missouri School District.

While serving at Atlanta PD, Tyrone created a program called Clippers and Cops. A community policing program that is expanding across the nation.

Tyrone shares his story with The Cornelius Project.

 

During his tenure at Atlanta PD, Tyrone served as a patrol officer, and later as a detective. He also served in the Criminal Intelligence Unit as well as the Special Enforcement Section. He graduated from the University of North Alabama with a Bachelor’s in Criminal Justice & Sociology. He also played professional basketball in Colombia.

  • Tyrone has received several awards and acknowledgements for his work with Clippers and Cops:

  • Community Service Award in 2017

  • Received a Community Service Award from The US Attorney’s Office Southern District of Georgia 2017

  • Creator and founder of the community based program Clippers & Cops ‘18

  • Received the Atlanta PD Commendation Award for my creation of Clippers & Cops program which is to help bridge the gap between law enforcement and the community 2019

  • Received a Proclamation from Atlanta City Council for Clippers & Cops 2019

  • Received the ASIS Law Enforcement Community Service Award ‘20

Tyrone’s achievements are quite extensive. During his time with Atlanta, he -

  • Participated in Investigations related to criminal activity dealing with firearms, robberies, shootings, carjackings.

  • Conducted processing of crime scenes for evidence such as weapons, fingerprints, physical evidence, and photographs.

  • Analyzed information with NCIC and GCIC in reference to checking criminal histories as well as placing wanted persons on the system as such.

  • Arranged case management and organized case files.

  • Developed written, oral, and time management skills in daily case reporting

  • Processed information used in securing and executing arrest and search warrants as well as court orders and subpoenas.

  • Implemented a tactical plan in order to execute a search warrant

  • Developed cases from leads gathered from descriptions, tips, witnesses, as well as confidential informants.

  • Delivered information to others such as co workers, supervisors, as well as the community

  • Arranged and developed photographic lineups

  • Communicated with other jurisdictions to gather and implement information to create leads.

  • Coordinated with the media in reference to delegated information in reference to high profile cases

  • Assisted with working with a sketch artist to create descriptions of possible suspects.

  • Conducted special in depth investigative interviews with subjects involved in sensitive and derogatory information about crimes that may have occurred

  • Maintained a POST Certification for the State of Georgia

  • Formulated large amounts of sensitive and Personal identifiable information and ensure it is protected

  • Proficient with Investigating reported crimes by interviewing and obtaining statements of victims, witnesses, suspects and confidential informants

  • Performed timely response to emergency calls

  • Proactive patrol of residential and commercial properties

  • Performed rescue functions at accidents, emergencies and disasters to include directing traffic, administering emergency medical aid, and managing dangerous situations; interacts with E.M.T. teams.

  • Proficient in working in a urban environment
